Text Message Usage On The Increase

Most of can remember the days when our phones had calls, texts and snake. They were basic and we really only used them for making and receiving calls. In fact most of us didn’t even get a phone unless we needed one for work.

Now if you look around a school classroom you can almost guarantee that every teenager in the room will have a mobile phone. They will be using them in class, not to make calls but to send text messages.

A large company has looked into more then 40,000 mobile phone bills of teenagers to get an idea of what they are using their phones for and what they are spending their bills on.

The answer is text messages. Whilst the report can’t tell us how long the messages are or what they said, it can tell us that on average a teenager sends over 3100 a month. If you break down this into time when they are not sleeping or busy this works out at around 10 text messages an hour! This is a massive amount especially when you consider that even 10 years ago text messaging on mobiles was a relatively new concept and phones were primarily used for making and receiving calls.

Even those that are under 13 are affected. With the average 12 year old sending around 1,100 text messages each and every month.

This is proof that future generations really will be using the mobile phones for much more than we do.
