O2 to restrict iPhone 4 selling to existing customers only

Mobile giant O2 have announced that they will only be selling the new iPhone 4 to existing customers for the first month, due to lack of handsets and high demand.

The iPhone 4 has been hotly anticipated for months and Apple’s newest mobile phone will finally be released on Thursday. Demand for the new handset was so high that some sites crashed because too many people were trying to pre-order the mobile phone.

Because of the exceedingly high demand O2 have announced that they will only be selling the new iPhone 4 to existing customers who are subscribed to their mobile broadband, home broadband or mobile phone services.

Bad news for non-O2 customers who signed up before May 24th then as existing customers will get priority and the remaining allocation will then be distributed.

An O2 spokesperson said: “We want to make sure that our existing customers get priority so until at least the end of July, only existing O2 customers will be able to get an iPhone 4 from us. Whether you’re an existing O2 mobile customer looking to upgrade, or one of our broadband customers looking to move your mobile to O2, our iPhone stock is reserved exclusively for you.”

If you want to get your hands on a fourth-generation iPhone however, then fret not as there are plenty of other providers who will be selling them – Vodafone, Orange, T-Mobile, Tesco Mobile and 3 have all signed up for the new handsets.
