Mobile network Orange has revealed a number of different trends that show how men and women use their mobiles rather differently.
The research showed a big increase in mobile users logging on for social networking, not surprising really with all you Facebook and Twitter fans out there, but perhaps it would surprise you to know that men do it more often that women.
Women send more text messages than men. Seems like women prefer to send a quick text with Orange’s study showing that women send more picture and text messages than men. A whopping 63 million SMS messages are sent every single day, but women are the textaholics amongst us.
Men watch a lot of sport on their phones. Seeing as sport is the main driver for TV viewing it’s not really surprising, and with sport being more popular amongst men that women, it goes without saying really that men watch more sport on their phones than women. Just wait until the World Cup! No doubt the number of viewings will sky rocket. Sky Sports 1 is the most popular mobile sports channel and attracts 24% of users.
Incidentally Saturday is the most popular day for customers to use the mobile internet, as men check out the latest football scores.
Sunday is them most popular day for downloading games for mobiles. Mobile gaming is enjoyed by both men and women but men tend to prefer time challenging games such as Tetris, with the more strategic games being preferred by women, such as Sims 3. Overall Tetris was voted the most popular mobile game.
Not really gender related but on another note Cheryl Cole was the most searched for celebrity. Her video ‘Fight for this Love’ was also the most downloaded music video.
