Sharp to release 3D camera for mobile phones

With the world going slightly gaga for 3D at the moment it was only going to be a matter of time before technology caught up and started offering 3D devices at home so now not only can you get a 3D ready TV but you can also get a 3D ready camera on your mobile phone.

Sharp have announced that that they have created a tiny 720p 3D camera ready for use in mobile devices and is small enough to fit into a smartphone or a compact point and shoot camera. The new technology in the device will allow it to capture both moving images and high resolution 3D pictures.

The device makes use of complex technology such as colour synchronising processing, ‘fast readout’ and high density mounting technology to help it produce high resolution 3D images.

Sharp have announced that the cameras will be ready to go into mass produced devices from the end of 2011 and they’re expected to be found in mobile phones as well as the 3D screens for the eagerly anticipated Nintendo 3DS.

As well as the tiny 3D camera Sharp have also announced plans to produce a wider range of 3D ready devices during the rest of 2010.
